Making Live Learning Possible

Ways to Make It Work

 

We know the struggle — staffing, ratios, and daily demands can make it tough to step away for professional development. But with a little planning and teamwork, live training is absolutely doable (and worth it!). Here are some creative ways centers are making it happen:

  • Rotate staff coverage.

    Schedule the training during nap time or quieter parts of the day, and rotate team members so everyone gets their turn to attend.

  • Split into small groups.

    If your full team can’t attend at once, create 2–3 small groups that each attend a different live session date.

  • Use floaters or subs strategically.

    Bring in a trusted substitute or floater to cover classrooms during the session — it’s an investment in your team’s long-term success.

  • Pair up with a neighboring center.

    Partner with another program to share sub costs or swap coverage so both teams can train together.

  • Plan a “professional growth day.”

    Close early one afternoon or dedicate an entire day to staff development. Families appreciate knowing you’re investing in quality!

  • Make it a celebration!

    Add snacks, certificates, and a quick reflection afterward. Turning PD into a shared experience boosts morale and retention.
